In September, I had the honour of officiating Rachel and Mitch’s unforgettable wedding celebration at The White Hart in Ampthill. After their legal vows were sealed by none other than Elvis himself in the iconic White Chapel in Las Vegas, their UK wedding was all about bringing the same energy of joy, love, and a touch of fun to their friends and family back home. With a relaxed, vibrant vibe (dreamy 'summer sunset and disco balls'!) that perfectly mirrored their personalities, Rachel and Mitch’s day was a blend of laughter, personal touches, and all-around good times - a true reflection of their love story. I honestly don't think I've ever been to a wedding so chilled and so authentically 'them'!
Rachel and Mitch's love story started like so many during lockdown - on a dating app. But what they found was something truly special. It didn’t take long to realise that they share a love for life’s simple pleasures: listening to live music, popping into pubs for a drink, enjoying meals out, getting competitive over a game of rummy, and curling up together to watch Saturday night TV. Add to that their shared, easy sense of humour, and it’s easy to see why these two just clicked.
In August 2023, their third anniversary, and Mitch decided it was time to pop the big question! They’d spent the day at a bottomless brunch and were back home, dancing in the kitchen and making pizzas while reminiscing about their time as a couple. But Mitch had one more surprise up his sleeve. He disappeared upstairs, grabbed the ring, and dropped to one knee in the middle of the living room. Rachel said yes (of course!), the pizzas were forgotten, and the rest of the night was spent calling and texting everyone they know to share the news.
Fast forward to their wedding day and Rachel’s walk down the aisle to Kiss Me by Sixpence None the Richer was pure 90s magic. With her dad, Gary, she followed her gorgeous bridesmaids and two cheeky nephews, who totally stole the show with their bubble guns - they seriously knew their role on the day and they went for it!
Rachel and Mitch brought all the fun and heart of their relationship into the ceremony with vows that were the perfect mix of heartfelt and funny. They chose not to exchange rings, as they’d already nailed that with Elvis. Instead, they opted to represent their union with a handfasting; a special touch that made their ceremony uniquely theirs.
They chose to end their ceremony with This Life by Vampire Weekend, walking back up the aisle to their friends and family whooping and cheering (and, of course, to more bubbles!). It really was the perfect, feel-good end to a ceremony that was as full of love and laughter as their relationship.
It truly is days like these that make me love my job more and more!
